About rie//process
Built From Inside Sterile Processing.
rie//PROCESS exists to make sterile processing education more practical, engaging, and connected to the decisions professionals make every day.
The Educator Behind rie//PROCESS
Hi, I’m valerie.
I’m a sterile processing educator, curriculum developer, and quality professional who has spent my career learning this work from multiple sides of the department.
I started on the frontline of sterile processing and later moved into leadership, OR/SPD liaison work, quality and education, certification education, curriculum development, and industry content development.
That experience changed the way I think about education.
I’ve seen what happens when someone can repeat the steps but doesn’t understand why they matter. I’ve seen competencies become paperwork exercises. I’ve seen preceptors handed a new employee and essentially told, “Okay, teach them.”
I’ve also seen what happens when education is structured well: people become more confident, judgment improves, expectations become clearer, and safe practice becomes something professionals can explain - not simply imitate.

Why rie//process
Information isn’t the same as education.
Sterile processing professionals are expected to understand complicated processes, interpret requirements, recognize risk, solve problems, and make decisions that can ultimately affect patient care.
Yet too much education still relies on information being presented, a box being checked, and everyone hoping the learning sticks.
rie//PROCESS was built around a different idea:
Learning should help people understand what they’re doing, why they’re doing it, and how to make the right decision when the answer isn’t obvious.
Make it understandable.
Complex doesn’t have to mean confusing.
Make it applicable.
Learning should connect to the work.
Make it matter.
Behind the process is a patient who depends on it being done well.
The Approach
Learn Better.
Teach Better.
Build Better Systems.
Learn Better.
Education should develop understanding, application, judgment, and decision-making - not just memorization.
Teach Better.
Educators and preceptors need practical ways to teach, assess, coach, and develop professionals over time.
Build Better Systems.
Strong education depends on the systems around it: onboarding, competency, readiness, assessment, documentation, and continued development.
The goal isn’t simply to complete training.
The goal is safe independent practice.
rie//PRocess is built for the people who learn, teach + lead SPD.
For SPD Professionals + Students
Free education, certification-prep strategies, visual learning tools, and practical resources.

Behind every process is a patient who matters.
Most sterile processing professionals will never meet the patients who depend on their work.
That doesn’t make the work - or the education behind it - any less important.
That’s the process behind rie//PROCESS.
